Welcome to the Logic and Ethics class blog
Hello, class. This is where you will go to post comments the progress you are making on your debates. I will usually have you write about something specific, so look out for updates. You will be required to post on this blog every other week. You are also required to comment on one of your classmate's posts. I will put the dates as assignments on edline. To post, simply read the question I have written and click on the comment link below it. Type your first name in the text box, then type your comment. When you are finished, use the pull down menu(blue arrow) and select anonymous . Then press the "Post Comment" button and complete the word verification screen. Alternately, you can sign in with a Google ID. Just be sure I know who you are. Comments won't appear until I approve them.

Week of 26 April
I feel that we made good progress last week. I will remind you not to cut and paste either from your own outline or from one of your sources, but for the most part, your posts were substantive attempts to deal with the need issue. This week, I'd like you to deal with a different stock issue--the practicality/workability of the solutions. You do not have to address solutions you favor. If you prefer, you can simply choose real solutions that represent alternatives and show how they are impractical or unworkable. Also, please look for my comments. I'm going to post devil's advocate arguments for each of the topics and I would like you to respond to them instead of only to your fellow students.

Week of 19 April
A bit of a change of pace this week is in order. When you post this week, please explain how you plan on developing the need issue. You all remember the need issue, right? Tell me the situation that exists right now and show how that situation is A BIG problem that we must take immediate action to solve. For con, let me know if you plan to agree with the need to change or to disagree with it and why.

Week of 12 April
I trust that you all had a lovely break. I see that many of you got off to a early start and neglected to post for the week of 29 March-2 April. I can't say that was a great idea, however, I feel certain you will more than make up for it with future posts.

Week of 29 March
Some of you are still treading water in your posts. You should post the ideas you encounter over the course of your research and not simply tell me that you encountered ideas. No post will be necessary for next week, by thye way. Enjoy your break.

Week of 15 March
Please post all of your comments for the week listed under this post. I won't go out of my way to find your postings. Also, I'll type comments as the opportunity arises, so look for them and feel free to comment back and argue with me. A few of you are using this forum wisely and a few are not. Right now I care that you get into the habit of using this blog to share ideas, but if your ideas never progress beyond the point of, "...good point, Johnny. I never would have thought of that! OMG LOLZ ;) ;)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you won't do well here. Remember, we are doing this both to help you test ideas and to keep track of the effort you are making.

Instructions
We are working on the final debate of the year, and I'd like to ensure that you make slow and steady progress. Every week, I'd like you to post about your topic. I don't care what format you use in your posts, I simply want to see that you are working on and thinking about the issues. Posts can include questions you have, lines of research you plan on pursuing, summaries of or links to articles you have read, etc. It is not a competition about who writes the most. You do not have to cover everything you have done.
I would also like you to help your peers. To that end, please respond every week to one of your classmates' posts with criticism, questions, or suggestions. Again, don't worry about form. Try to use what you know about reasoning, logic, or research to point your classmates in the right direction.
As with last year's literature blog, please include your name in your post. I encourage you to create an account with Google; if you have one, you can sign in and post your comments using your own login and password. The standard login is posted on edline, in case you forgot it.
