My group was me, Jaxx, and Sam

Due to what my partners said, I feel as though I should have said our arguments...

    Cause and Effect

Tiger Mothers demand A's and perfection from their kids at all times. This really stressed the children out, and most the time the children never get over it. As an adult these Tiger Children are still stressed. This leads them to be murderers.

    Generalization

All of the Tiger Moms and their children will be great. They will all be like Amy Chua's family, rich, smart, famous.

    Debate

Tiger Moms and their children will be super smart, or homeless.

    Evidence

There are Tiger Moms that say the way they raise their children is the best way. There are psychiatrists that argue what the Tiger Moms do is damaging to the children. Obviously children with average mothers must be the best children, and students.

    C/E +

Tiger Moms push children to be better in school, and in life. These children will get A's in school. This helps them get into a good high-school, and good colleges. Good colleges will help the children in their life, all around. Tiger mothers are better, because of how their kids turn out, great.

    Poverty

In 1993, the number of charities in America increased by 15%, and in that same year, the number of impoverished families decreased by 30,000. So, we should increase governmental spending on funding charities.

A survey taken by Kos shows that 87.3% of poor families own a house. This survey was taken by phone and email.

In Obama's State of the Union address, he indirectly stated that impoverished families are a threat to the national debt and our nations security. He also thinks that we should eliminate them completely by decreasing the price of fat foods. Obama is a racist bigot fascist and a communist.

Out of the people in poverty 99% own refrigerators and 90% own televisions. - They don't have it so bad.

Anthony Weiner believes we should raise the minimum wage to decrease poverty. John Boehner believes we should lower it to increase employment. Therefore we should stay the same.

  3. L Aaron. I was with Gregory in my group. Here are the logical fallacy statements of each of the five types of reasoning and one good argument:
False Scenario Fallacy of Cause and Effect Reasoning: If corporations and unions didn't have thei minipulating ads that don't disclose where their funding comes from, they wouldn't play an impact in electing bad candidates.

Appeal to the Golden Mean of Reasoning of Authority:
Some say that corps and unions are bad. Others say corps are good. So, corps and unions are average- half good & half bad.
    Generalization stereotype:
All those Americans at Citizens United all make bad arguments when they say that corps and unions like Citizens United are allowed to not disclose where their funding comes from.
Staw Man of reasoning by debate:
Those corps and unions don't want to disclose where their funding comes from. Therefore, the people that run these corps and unions are unfriendly towards the US public. If they were friendly, they'd tell the US. Friendly people that run corps and unions would tell where their funding comes from. That's just part of being friendly.
One good argument of Cause and Effect Reasoning:
Corporations and Unions don't disclose where their funding comes from because they don't want to look bad if their funding comes from unfavorable donors.

  4. My partner was Sarah but I did not write down anything of what we came up with. So what we put down will be completely different.

Generalization- 72 percent of people in Middle East say they would have prefered democracy in the Middle East before any of the protest.

Cause and Effect- The reason the protests started was because of a man who lit himself on fire in protest of Tunisia's government. Not because of George Bush.

Authority- Barrack Obama says that we should not pick sides or get involved but George Bush says that we should get involved and try to establish democracy. So the answer must be somewhere in the middle.

Debate- The people of Libya or George Bush is the reason the protests are happening, but George Bush went about establishing democracy the wrong way.

Cause and Effect- George Bush said that if democracy is established in one country other countries will want it also and know other countries are protesting for democracy.

    Internet

    Cause and Effect Reasoning-Single Cause
The only reason that the Egyptians are mad is
because the country cut the internet.
    Generalizations-Special Pleading
When china cut the internet 50% of people
got more angry and 10% of people did not
have internet so it did not matter any way.
    Reasoning by Proof-Appeal to Authority
Obama likes the bill to cut the internet so
so we have to pass this bill
    Reasoning by Debate- Golden Mean
Republicans want to pass this bill and
democrats don't so we should redo the bill
    so every one likes it
    Real
People in Egypt are mad about the internet
being cut. It wont be any different if the
    us does it

  6. Cause and Effect
Prostituters caused a disaster so they may have to go to jail.
Not many prostituters went to jail because Wall Street stopped most of them from going to jail.

    Generalizations
90% of the prostituters are not in jail.

    Reasoning by Proof
Wall Street say prostituters shouldn't go to jail. Other people say prostituters say prostituters should go to jail. Obviously the people cannot do anything about it.

    Reasoning by Debate
The prostituters would have to go to jail, die, or pay lots of money.

  7. Should Prostitution be legalized
    Haddon, John

    C/E
Legalizing Prostitution will cause more pimps to pop out and then more people will go into prostitution and they will spread STDs
    Generalization
All prostitutes will catch an STD at some point.

    Debate
We either keep prostitution, or we don't, those are the only choices.

    Evidence
The Mayor of Amsterdam says legalizing prostitution was a mistake, the professor of economics at Harvard says it was a good thing, so there obviously must be some middle ground.

    C/E (correct one)

Men are willing to pay more for sex without condoms, many prostitutes are willing to have unprotected sex for more money, this leads to the spread of STDs.

My group was Dylan and I.

    Falacies:

    Generalization:

About 67% of all of the people that have been in or seen any of the upheavals say that the Bush administration policies did not help anyone in the middle east.

    Cause and Effect:

All of the upheavals and all of the protests in Tunisia and Egypt were caused by the bush administration policies not making the right political and economical changes it should have made to help all of the countries throughout the middle east.

    Proof:

Bush is still trying to fix these upheavals and make them better for all of these people in the Middle east. While Obama is trying to do the same, but they both have different Ideas to try to fix these upheavals and protests. They need to try to communicate together and to revise and fix eachothers policies to meet in the middle and fix these problems.

    Debate:

The people in Tunisia will either die from all the upheavals or be fine if the upheavals are fixed.

    Cause and Effect+

The bush policies are making the upheavals and the protests in Tunisia and Egypt easier to handle.

  9. CAUSE AND EFFECT- IF GOLDMAN SACHS NEVER SOLD FAKE MORTGAGES TO MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, FORCING THEM INTO FORECLOSURE, THEN THE SARBANES OXLEY LAWS, WHICH WERE PUT INTO EFFECT AFTER THE FRAUDS OF ENRON , WOULD’VE REMAINED UNBROKEN THE ECONOMY WOULDN’T HAVE DECLINED SO SEVERELY.
GENERALIZATION- THE FINANCIAL SPECULATORS ON WALL STREET SHOULD BE PROSECUTED BECAUSE, DESPITE CRIMES INCLUDING FRAUD, INSIDER TRADING, FAILURE TO DICVLOSE INFORMATION, AND STEALING, NONE OF THE FINANCIAL SPECULATORS WERE PUNISHED.
PROOF- MATT TAIBBI SAYS THE FINANCIAL SPECULATORS SHOULD BE JAILED FOR LIFE FOR FRAUD, STEALING MONEY, AND INSIDER TRADING AND SCHEMING, WHILE THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THAT FINES UP TO $20 MILLION ARE ENOUGH. LIAM CORMIER THINKS THAT BOTH THESE PUNISHMENTS AREN’T SUITABLE FOR THE CRIMES. HE CALCULATES, USING THE PRINCIPLES OF RETRIBUTIVE JUSTICE, THAT THE PROPER PUNISHMENT WOULD BE TO FIRE THEM
DEBATE- WE SHOULD PROSECUTE THEM BECAUSE IF WE FINE THEM, THE FINES AREN'T HARSH ENOUGH A PUNISHMENT AND THEY HAVEN'T BEEN WARNED BY IT , WE CAN'T NOT GIVE THEM THEIR BONUSES BECAUSE THERE'S NO WAY TO DO THAT, WE CAN'T FIRE THEM BECAUSE THEY'D STILL GET THEIR BONUSES AND POTENTIALLY STUPID PEOPLE COULD COME AND TAKE THEIR POSITIONS, WE CAN'T ONLY CREATE 7-8 % INFLATION INDUCED US TREASURY BOND ONLY FOR RETIREMENT FUNDS BECAUSE IT ONLY HELPS WITH THE DEBT AND NOT HELPING THE OTHER PROBLEMS THAT WE HAVE..
DEBATE- SINCE THE PROSECUTION OF THE EXECUTIVES AT ENRON DIDN’T SERVE AS A PROPER DETERMENT TO THE OTHER FINANCIAL SPECULATORS, THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD ENFORCE STRICTER REGULATORY LAWS ON WALL STREE.

  10. They were afraid that the war would be similar to the first war, and they were afraid of disrupting peace between nations, and they underestimated the power of Hitler and the Germans. They ultimately went to war because the Germans and the Japanese attacked.

    ReplyDelete
  11. - The reason that the allies let Germany get away with so much was because they didn't want war. They were still rebuilding from the massive losses of WWI, they were afraid of war because of what happened in World War I, and they thought that if they gave the Germans what they wanted, war wouldn't have to be an option.

    ReplyDelete
  12. And then, they just let Hitler do what ever he wanted, “He renounced the clauses of the treaty which limited the size of the army, reintroduced universal conscription, and decreed the creation of an independent air force.” Neville Chamberlain, the chancellor of Britain, made a mistake by appeasing Hitler.

  13. This helped the US’s economy in three ways Germany and Japan both bought US materials, Germany and Japan helped the US for a while, and Germany and Japan did not complain that much

“There had been threats back and forth between the two Koreas, and when on June 25, 1950, North Korean armies moved southward across the 38th parallel in an invasion of South Korea, the United Nations, dominated by the United States, asked its members to help ‘repel the armed attack.’” This quote from Fire says that the US thought that it was nothing to worry about.

  14. there were three main reasons on why this did happen. One and the most important, was that the Great depression was happening and the Allies couldn’t afford another War. The second main reason was that Hitler persuaded all of the Allies that he wasn’t doing anything wrong and that he was only building his army up, to protect himself from the French and other countries. The third main reason was that the Allies realized that Germany was building their army up to hurt the Allies was too late and if the Allies attacked it would be a risk. Because Germany became a super power all of a sudden.

    ReplyDelete
  15. First, the Allies knew that they weren't as strong as Germany and that Germany was dealing with their own problems.Second, Hitler kept attacking other places and starting wars. Last, the Allies only attacked who the main enemy was.The Allies didn't want to get into a war that they knew firsthand that they wouldn't be victorious

evidence: In January of 1934 Hitler banned Jews from joining in the military. "Hence today I believe that I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator: by defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord."

    ReplyDelete
  16. The United States did not do anything in the 1930s because President Franklin Delano Roosevelt wasn’t compassionate toward the Jews or the countries being threatened by Japan, and the United States was isolationist. The reason the European Allies did not prevent Germany from rebuilding their army and taking aggressive actions was that they were scared of another war; they were willing to make compromises with the Germans to prevent it. Finally, the Allies did not stop Germany or Japan because the Great Depression made them rethink any feelings of entering another global war.

The “appeasement” of Germany was most portrayed by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. On this issue, he once famously stated that “we should seek by all means in our power to avoid war, by analyzing possible causes, by trying to remove them, by discussion in a spirit or collaboration of good will.” This quote shows the appeasement mentality of European leaders of the time.

  17. There were many reasons why the Allies allowed the Germans to rebuild their power. One was because at the time there was a world economic depression that the whole world was going through and the Allies had to deal with their country’s problems. While the world was having an economic crisis the Germans economy was doing well. Another reason is years after the war the Allies felt bad for the Germans and so whenever the Germans had a reason to take land or build up their army, the Allies thought it was reasonable. Also the US was one of the Allies that wanted to be isolated from the world except on a trading point of view so it came to the attention of Americans of what Germany was doing they didn’t care as long as it didn’t effect them.

What happened was that Japan was attacking China and the US was selling weapons to the Japanese, so the US stopped trading with the Japanese to stay out of the conflict. There were people though in the US government that didn’t want to remain isolated, people like FDR.

    ReplyDelete
  18. First, the United States wasn’t in a good position to try to stop the Nazi army during the Holocaust. Isolationism, refugee policies, the Great Depression, and even prejudices against the Jews held the US from intervening on Germany. Second, the Treaty of Versailles, which restricted the Germans’ military power, was extremely unfair and some of the allies’ sympathy allowed Germany to take advantage of them.

    ReplyDelete
  19. However, the Treaty of Versailles (signed after the First World War) restricted how much military power the Germans could have. First, it that Germany could have no more than 100,000 troops in its army; second, it said that Germany could only have defensive weapons. Plus, along with military restrictions, the Germans lost all foreign territory and had to pay the allies’ war expenses along with their own. Although the Germans had fairly lost World War I, the Treaty of Versailles was not a fair punishment.

  20. They French also needed time to rebuild, and in a way, they started rebuilding right after the war. According to John Keegan, the author of A History of warfare, "France sought literally to wall itself off from a renewal of the trench agony…" The French also needed time to rebuild from War, and so they built a giant wall.

  21. Evidence

The great depression affected every country in the United States. It mostly affected Germany. As charts show, gold went up to trillions of dollars after being about two dollars in Germany. Most people couldn’t even buy food because it was so expensive. Nobody wanted to go to War no matter what happened. Because one hundred people died in World War one which was devastating to the world, and now that the Great depression was happening, countries couldn’t go to another war. Even if all of the countries noticed Germany building up its troops, they couldn’t afford to go to another war. They were too busy trying to figure out how to handle their country so they wouldn’t lose all of their money. The only country that could possibly try to stop Germany would be the United States. But they wanted to be isolated. They wanted to stay out of all the trouble and didn’t want to be bothered by any other countries. They weren’t going to help their allies no matter what, they said, because they wanted to be isolated. But eventually, isolation didn’t work for them and they were dragged into World War two.
